Heads up, I am biased on which years are the best years to gift a boudoir album, so obviously I’m concentrating on those years.  Boudoir photography is what I do, you know. The actual anniversary gift list by year is at the end of this blog article though.

The First Year

Paper is the traditional first year gift.  Obviously, I consider this the perfect time to give the boudoir album! A few of my clients, who don’t end up booking the session for their wedding gift, actually book a session shortly after their wedding.  They are still in the best shape of their life, so they can remember their rocking body, plus the album will be sure to be done for their first anniversary!

I also want to take a second and talk about one of my albums, The Milan. This album is super customizable, from the box, to the interior of the box and the cover of the album.  I specifically love that we can write a little note on the cover.  Most clients choose “Love, their name,” but you can customize it however you choose.

Putting Others First

As women, we tend to put others ahead of ourselves. Woman balance  commitments, jobs, appointments, crazy, changing schedules. There is a constant demand for our attention. My clients are mothers, wives, girlfriends, students, caretakers, and/or mediators of never ending family drama.  It’s an exhausting cycle, which ends with us falling in bed at night, not remembering who we really are. Sure, sure… an occasional purchase of a new pair of jeans, make-up, or even jewelry, maybe a pedicure and manicure. If you think about it, how long do those treats give you that lasting confident feeling? Not long, right? Yep, you’re dragged back into the mundane and constant care of others.

Boudoir Photography & Wall Portraits

When you think of boudoir photography, you probably think of a very intimate and private experience– which in many ways it is. The only people at your session are you, the hair and makeup artist, and me. And perhaps you want an album to take away from your session that’s just for you and your partner to look at tucked away from the kids and the rest of the world. While I definitely want my clients to walk away with an album as a tangible memory, I want them to consider getting a wall portrait along with their album to show the world!

Okay, I’m not talking about the sexiest, raciest of your photos and have you prominently displayed over your mantle in your lingerie, unless you want to! Those photos you can keep in your album. But there are so many kinds of boudoir photos that you can display in great taste!

Some women are great at doing their own hair and makeup.

Then, there are women like me.

I rarely wear makeup, and I just recently learned how to curl my hair.

Beachwaver is a lifesaver, by the way. I cannot twist my wrist to make a curl. This thing does the twisting for you.

There’s a huge difference, though, in doing your hair and makeup for day to day life and doing it for photos.  Cameras pick up every imperfection you have, so great makeup and good coverage is important. It’s also important to contour well so your best features are shown.

Hair and makeup can make or break your boudoir session. This is why I include it as part of the session fee.  The hair and makeup artists I hire are AMAZING at what they do because they have been specially trained for hair and makeup for photography.

The most asked question at boudoir session consults is “what outfits do you recommend”. I usually send clients the link to my What to Wear series, part’s 1, 2, 3, but I think, since it’s been a bit, it’s time to update for 2019. I have so many updated boudoir outfit tips, so be ready to take notes!

For the past few years, I have been anti- accessories for boudoir sessions.

I’m changing my stance today. I now feel accessories can take your boudoir outfit to the next level.

With that being said though, I still think there are some rules to follow when finding accessories for your boudoir session.

So today, let’s talk about the rules for accessories for boudoir session outfits and seve different options for accessories.

At THE BOUDOIR EXPERIENCE, our clients have the ability to bring an unlimited number of outfits. We always tell our clients to bring their entire closet as we’d rather have more to choose from than less! Most clients wear 8-10 looks at their session, and some even wear more. Remember, you do not need to spend a ton of money on your outfits, and most women have a lot more in their closet that can already be used than they realize!

Women come in all shapes and sizes.  Beauty is found in every single person.  There’s a difference in the confidence and attitudes of plus size women.  While some women embrace their curves, others are embarrassed. My mission in life is to help show every woman how gorgeous they are – just as they are, right now, through boudoir photography in my St. Louis, MO studio.  Step one in this process is knowing what to wear to flatter your figure.  Also, see a past boudoir session of a curvy client. Bridal Boudoir– A gift for you AND for him.

I say this one a lot, but honestly, a bridal boudoir photography session is a gift for him as much as it is a gift for you.  You’re in a seriously stressful time in your life.  So much wedding planning is going on.  Dealing with your soon to be in-laws who don’t see things the way you do may be keeping you up at night.  So many decisions need to be made now and you only have so much time to get those invitations mailed out.  

Boudoir Album– It’s all about quality

Also, I would recommend that you get your prints through your photographer. For me, I am very serious about the quality of prints for my clients and thoroughly assess prospective vendors before I choose to collaborate with them. My lab is professional quality and I carefully hand picked it because of the high quality of their photo processing. That being said, getting prints through your photographer will be of a MUCH better quality than if you go to the grocery store or drugstore’s photo developers.
